Free app for viewing and editing PDF files
Last updated: 2026-09-10
PDF Editor is a free web app for editing PDF files. It runs in your browser, with nothing to install and no sign-up required for files on your computer. Pages are rendered by pdf.js, the open source PDF engine behind Firefox, and edits are written by pdf-lib; both run inside your browser.
Your PDF is processed in the browser instead of being uploaded to a PDF Editor server. Google sign-in is requested only when you choose a Google Drive action, and the limited drive.file permission lets the app work with files you select or create - not everything in your Drive.
Opening, rendering, editing, and writing happen on your device in the browser. A Google Drive PDF you can edit autosaves as you work; a PDF from your computer is written only after your first manual save, and it autosaves from then on. A recovery draft may also update in local browser storage, but a draft never overwrites the image on your computer or in Drive.
When you use Google Drive, the PDF travels directly between your browser and Google through Google's APIs.
